Maureen was born and reared in Sacramento, California. After graduation from high school, she worked in the credit department of a major department store in Sacramento. She and Jim met at church and they were married there in 1966. Their two daughters, Catherine and Kristine, were born in Virginia during Jim’s assignment at the Pentagon. Maureen and Jim have four grandchildren and a fifth one is due in February 2003.
From Washington, D. C., Maureen and Jim were sent to Austin. They were members of their church choir and also active in Marriage Encounter for several years, which awoke their desire to immerse themselves more into the life of the Church. When their daughters became students at Sacred Heart School, Maureen worked in the Parish Office. Toward the end of formation of Jim’s class for the deaconate, Maureen coordinated the production of the stoles and dalmatics for the ordination of his class. While her main ministry has always been to support Jim as a deacon, soon after ordination she was elected to the first Deacon Council in the Austin Diocese and also served on the Deacon Advisory Council for the Bishop. After Jim was reassigned in 1997 from Sacred Heart Parish to St. Joseph’s Parish in Manor, Maureen served on the Parish Council, the Finance Committee, and volunteered to work as Parish Secretary, which included accounts payable. She also worked with the Gabriel Project in the Parish. Since coming to Granbury, besides working on the Saint Frances Cabrini office staff, Maureen has become a member of the Lone Star Chorus which is the Fort Worth chapter of Sweet Adelines International, a women’s barbershop harmony organization. She sings lead. Maureen and Jim enjoy traveling and have pulled their fifth wheel travel trailer on a couple of extended trips to visit Maureen’s family in California. Other trips so far have been for camping in relatively nearby state parks. |
